Face and Scalp- Love your body
The Scalp and Face are some of my very favorite places on the body to begin or end a massage session. It is an all too often overlooked area of the body that deserves our attention and can set the tone for your entire massage.
Let's talk a little bit about the physical and energetic reasons we might focus on or include the face and scalp.
Physically: A really good face and scalp massage can stimulate your nervous system and help you to relax down into your parasympathetic system. It can help with sinus pressure, TMJ, and when using the right oils can be amazing for both your hair and skin. A tremendous amount of stress can be held in our face muscles especially along the jaw area. Using massage to release this tension can help ease headaches and neck pain as well.
Let's not forget the ears! This is often a surprising favorite spot for massage.
Energetically: The Crown Chakra sits at the top of your scalp, and the Third Eye Chakra sits just about where the thumbs are placed in this photo. You will also find reflexology points and meridian points in this area of the body. A great scalp massage can often feel like a whole body experience.
Massaging this area can also be very nostalgic and comforting. Clients often tell me about a grandma or loved one who would rub their head when they were sick or having trouble sleeping. Doing this for your loved ones, or for yourself can be so soothing and I highly recommend giving it a try. In fact, recently my partner had a minor medical procedure and I actually watched his blood pressure and heart rate come back down to normal on the monitors as I gently massaged his head.
While we incorporate face and scalp massage into almost every session, we love it's benefits so much we created a few services to directly highlight them.
